Rockin’ outfit and a sweet ride, eh?
When I was noodling around with my crochet hook and a skein of pink yarn last weekend, I made a couple of these little hearts.
Simple Crochet Hearts
(I used worsted-weight yarn and a size G hook to get a heart that’s about 2″ tall. Sizing is flexible though.)
1. ch3, turn
2. sk first chain, sl st in two, ch1, turn
3. sk first chain, 2 sl st in first st, sl st all until last st, 2 sl st in last st, ch1, turn.
4. repeat Step 3 four times. You should have five rows, with ten st plus the extra ch.
5. Sl st in all (no inc), ch1, turn. Repeat once more, till you have seven rows.
6. (to make the rounded top of the heart) Ch 1, sk ch and 2 st, dc 7 in sp (under 3rd st). Sk 1 st, sl st in sp. Sk 1 st, dc 7 in sp. Sk 3 st, sl st in far edge of last st.
7. Weave in the ends – you’re finished!
EDIT: Optionally, you can add a border in a contrasting color. See pics here. I began in the dip of the top of the heart and did one slst per st.
Right now is a stolen moment during second nap-time. First nap-time ended a bit abruptly with circular saw noises from a neighboring condo – yikes. While Minnie sleeps, late-lunch cooks, and before my homework is all done, there’s time for a quick blog post.
Our family of three took an impromptu trip up to visit my folks this past weekend. We decided to take the 5ish hour trip less than 24 hours before we set out! Many thanks to dear husband J for the idea and for doing so much to make it happen. It was a lovely birthday weekend!
I was a little apprehensive about toting so much homework along with me, but I figured it was better to see my family a little bit than not at all. I ended up getting a bit less homework done than I’d planned, but spending lots more quality time with the crew than I’d dared to hope. Minnie loved loved loved being surrounded by her doting family, and I loved being able to do squeak in not just homework, but a bit of crochet and even some snuggle time with J! Other activities included several rounds of Set, consumption of a lot of chocolate frosting with a bit of cake in the middle, all of us sitting around watching Minnie like she was our TV, and accidentally falling asleep at around 8:30 on our last night there. A lovely, refreshing weekend!
And now, the homework beckons.
**Edit: My homework due tonight is now done! I’ve come back and cleaned up the formatting and writing just a bit. Next up: juggle Minnie and tomorrow’s homework!
I’ve been a bit stressed out lately. I’ll spare you the details – this blog is not about kvetching! But the fact was, I just had nothing to give my sweet little eight-month old Minnie this morning. All I could think of were the dozens of things that needed doing that were yet undone. I got us both bathed without much fuss, but after that she was uncharacteristically whiny and I was uncharacteristically annoyed. She finally went down for a nap, and even though I had about four hundred things to do that are all easier to accomplish without continually rescuing the kitties and little Minnie from each other… I took a time out.
A gloriously good decision.
I fired up the new blog, had fun taking abysmal photos for the header in the rainy-day light with my cell phone camera, knit a few rounds of Minnie’s new hat, and just wound down a bit, you know? Calm creativity. By the time Minnie woke up, I was ready to be Mommy again instead of an empty mommy impersonator. Coincidentally (or perhaps not), she is in a much better mood now too. Together, we’re inching through the to-do list, and we both seem to be enjoying it.
I’ve been thinking for a while about starting a personal blog.
By getting this post up and running, that’s one barrier down!
